It’s a Web Video, not TV

Today I was sat in a lecture about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and after a brief chat with the lecturer and having had a previous conversation with a friend to whom has spent the guts of almost 10,000 Euros on a web video fit for Television, something occurred to me.

Too many a potential client are often misled by many of my competitors to whom produce videos that are just so high quality and so high standard then finished off just so professionally that the client is left behind with effects, dozens of professional actors, expensive voice over artists and the end result looks like a advert for a Television channel, not a website.

All too often I also see other video producers to who have a video reel which is so overwhelming in regards to massively over done flash graphics, music fit for either an illegal rave or an elevator and motion which is so fast and unnecessary that the viewer is in a bad mood before they are a minute into viewing it.

For some, if not more, these videos look stunning and indeed they are, but potential clients must stop for a moment and ask themselves one important question...

“Is this really what I need for my business?”

The answer really does depend on the business, so let’s say for arguments sakes we’re talking about a new company or smaller enterprise that want to get involved with the growing trend of online videos to market their service/product.

The answer to the question is quite frankly, “NO”

What the company needs is a web video, simply that, not a wannabe documentary of such high quality it could still look interesting even when selling car insurance.  It inevitably sells the producers of the video not the product of their client(s).

The Web Video is different, a good web video consists of fewer graphics, concise and accurate information delivered via slides or voiceover or even both, a simple and catchy music background if requested, good quality motion footage or animation. Costing approximately a grand and that’s pretty much about it; oh and guess what?

That version will do exactly the same as the video which was fit for the TV.  It will integrate much more lightly on your website which means ease of viewing for the client’s clients.
On top of this, there is an incredible cosiness with a video which isn’t quite so mega in its presentation or overtly highfalutin.

An acquaintance of mine once said...

“Look at that BMW in front of us, why bother paying for that when you get exactly the same facilities and comfort sat here in my Honda Accord!”

He had a very good point, and so thus, any new client looking for a web video producer should be thinking the same.
